One of the most beautiful destinations in Greece

Heading to Trikala Korinthias, 144 kilometres ftom Athens and 119 kilometres from Patra.

Escape to Trikala Korinthias through a fantastic route in mountainous korinthia.

Just outside the town of Xylokastro, heading for Patra, the road turns left and by following the road signs one can reach Trikala only 24 kilometres away from Xylokastro. Before arriving in the first district of Trikala, one can meet pretty villages with their traditional houses such as Riza, Rethi, as well as Pellini and Dendro,depending on which route you follow. Trikala Korinthias consist of three districts: Kato, Mesaia, and Ano Trikala and it is the biggest village in the east side of Ziria.

They lie on an altitude of 900 metres, 1000 metres and 1100 metres correspondingly and Trikala is one of the oldest mountainous resort. It was built in the location of ancient Mysaion, in the 10^th century by the plainsmen, who were on the run by irvaders. Having left their homes, they went up the mountain of Ziria and built villages in this beautiful and fertile land. Trikala used to be the homeland of Notara family powerful dignitaries of Korinthia and also place of birth of the St. Gerasimos.

The sights are various and really important starting from Kato Trikala, the visitor can see the impressive church of St. Dimitris,built in 1967, with the stunning wall paintings of expressionistic type. In Mesaia Trikala one can continue with a visit to the Monastery o Virgin Mary, whish is believed to have been built in 1700 by Gregory Notara, Metropolitan of Korinth.

In Ano Trikala lost of mansions and churches which were constructed by stone in the 16^th – 18^th century are still saved and the visitor can visit them. For instance, one can visit the old masion which used to belong to the Notara family and the marvelous church of St. Nikolaos with the remarkably wallpaintings which dated back to the 10^th centuty.
